KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and Unifi TV have been designated as the official broadcasters for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Malaysia. This initiative, announced by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, aims to ensure that the public can enjoy the tournament in a comprehensive and inclusive manner.
Broadcasting Details
Fahmi highlighted that the collaboration with the private sector is intended to provide high-quality broadcasting and extend the reach to audiences across the nation. The World Cup will be accessible on multiple platforms, including free-to-air via MyTV and over-the-top (OTT) services through RTM Klik and Unifi TV. “Comprehensive coverage covering all 104 matches will be broadcast live on Unifi TV, while RTM will air the majority of matches either live or on a delayed basis,” he stated, offering fans various viewing options.
Engagement and Sponsorship
Additionally, the Grandstand programme will be produced from Angkasapuri, primarily in Malay with some content in English. Updates will also be shared through the Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme. To engage fans further, public viewing events will be organized at selected locations. Fahmi mentioned that several main sponsors have been identified to support this effort, with announcements expected soon. The government has allocated RM24 million for the broadcasting initiative, which has already been approved.
Fahmi emphasized the importance of adhering to anti-piracy regulations concerning all content related to the event. He called on all parties to act responsibly and assured that enforcement against violations would be strengthened. The minister expressed hope that the tournament would foster unity among the people through the spirit of sport.
The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with the opening match set for June 11 in Mexico City and the final scheduled for July 19 in New Jersey.
