The CommBank Socceroos have expanded their train-on squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ by adding eight new players as they prepare for their pre-camp in Sarasota, Florida. This move comes as the team gears up for the upcoming tournament, which will see them compete against some of the world's best teams.
New Additions to the Squad
The latest additions to the Socceroos' train-on squad include Alessandro Circati from Parma, Lucas Herrington of Colorado Rapids, Awer Mabil from Castellon, Kye Rowles of DC United, Mat Ryan from Levante, Paul Okon-Engstler of Sydney FC, Tete Yengi, who is on loan from Livingston to Machida Zelvia, and Kai Trewin from New York City. These players are expected to join the squad this week.
In contrast, several players have been released from the training camp, including Daniel Bennie (QPR), Raphael Borges Rodrigues (Wigan Athletic, on loan from Coventry City), Anthony Caceres (Macarthur FC), Mitch Duke (Macarthur FC), Dylan Leonard (Schalke), Alex Robertson (Cardiff City), Gianni Stensness (Viking), and Ante Suto (Hibernian).
Upcoming Matches and Preparation
The Socceroos are set to face Mexico, one of the World Cup co-hosts, at The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on May 30, with the match taking place on May 31, AEST. Following this, they will take on Switzerland at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego on June 6 (June 7, AEST). Their World Cup campaign will officially begin against Türkiye in Vancouver on June 13 (June 14, AEST). The team is placed in Group D and will also compete against the United States in Seattle on June 19 (June 20, AEST) and Paraguay in the San Francisco Bay Area on June 25 (June 26, AEST).
The new players will join a squad that already includes notable names such as Patrick Beach (Melbourne City), Aziz Behich (Melbourne City), and Mathew Leckie (Melbourne City), among others, bringing the total number of players in the train-on squad to 29. Coach Popovic and his staff are utilizing the Sarasota camp to evaluate this broader pool of talent before finalizing the squad, which must be submitted to FIFA by June 1.
After the pre-camp in Sarasota, the Socceroos will move to Los Angeles on May 28, with their official Base Camp training site located at the Oakland Roots Sports Club in Oakland, California, during the tournament.
