Fans attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup will face new restrictions regarding the items they can bring into stadiums, as FIFA has announced a ban on reusable water bottles. This decision, which comes as a last-minute update to the Stadium Code of Conduct, is attributed to safety concerns.

New Regulations for Spectators

Previously, FIFA allowed fans to carry empty, transparent, reusable plastic bottles into the venues. However, the updated regulations now prohibit these bottles, aligning the tournament's rules with those already enforced at several host stadiums. Alongside reusable bottles, other items such as cups, jars, and cans are also banned due to the potential risk of injury if thrown.

Safety Commitment and Heat Management

FIFA emphasized its commitment to ensuring the health and safety of all participants and attendees, stating, "FIFA is committed to protecting the health and safety of all players, referees, fans, volunteers, and staff." The organization noted that the prohibition of bottles aims to mitigate risks associated with potential injuries during matches.

Concerns have been raised among fans regarding access to drinking water, especially with temperatures expected to reach between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius at some venues. In response, FIFA has indicated that host cities and local authorities are implementing various measures to assist spectators in coping with the heat during the tournament.
