Germany has officially appointed Jurgen Klopp as their new national team coach, with a contract that extends until the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 2030™. Klopp takes over from Julian Nagelsmann, who stepped down after Germany's unexpected exit in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup, where they were eliminated by Paraguay in a tense penalty shootout in Boston.

Klopp's Impressive Background

Klopp arrives in his new role with an impressive track record, having previously managed both Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund to league titles. His accolades also include winning the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup™ with Liverpool. Most recently, he served as the Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull.

Expectations and Vision

During a press conference announcing his appointment, Klopp expressed his excitement, stating, "It is a great honour and a special day for me to be sitting here today." He acknowledged the significance of the national team manager role and emphasized his commitment to restoring Germany's status as a competitive force in international football. The four-time World Cup champions have not won a knockout match since their triumph in Brazil 12 years ago, facing group-stage exits in both the 2018 and 2022 tournaments, along with their recent defeat in North America.

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf highlighted Klopp as their top choice from the outset, noting his ability to motivate players and enhance team performance. Klopp will be joined by assistant coaches Peter Krawietz and Pepijn Lijnders, along with former Dortmund player Sven Bender, who will also serve as an assistant. Regarding his football philosophy, Klopp stated, “It’s all about us playing better football,” emphasizing the importance of a stable lineup and a clear game plan. He is optimistic about the potential for success at the national level, drawing from his experiences at Mainz, Dortmund, and Liverpool.

Klopp's tenure will kick off with a UEFA Nations League match against the Netherlands in Amsterdam on 24 September.
