U.S. Soccer has confirmed that Mauricio Pochettino will continue as the head coach of the men's national team, having signed a new contract that extends through the 2030 World Cup.

Pochettino's Role and Responsibilities

Pochettino, who initially took charge in September 2024, will focus on leading the senior team for the next four years. In addition to his coaching duties, he will also serve in an advisory capacity for U.S. Soccer, addressing various aspects such as the development of national teams, youth soccer, coaching education, and collaboration with professional leagues in the U.S.

"Working together with U.S. Soccer over the past two years, it has become clear to us that there is tremendous potential to make the Men's National Team program even stronger," Pochettino stated. He emphasized the impact of fan passion during the World Cup and expressed excitement about contributing to the sport's growth in the U.S.

While the specifics of Pochettino's salary have not been disclosed, it is known that he was one of the highest-paid national team coaches globally, with an annual base salary around $4 million. His return was facilitated by what U.S. Soccer referred to as a "philanthropic leadership gift" from donors, including hedge fund billionaire Kenneth C. Griffin and Scott Goodwin.

Negotiations for the new deal gained momentum following the USMNT's performance in the recent World Cup. U.S. Soccer had made a formal offer to Pochettino and his staff before the tournament commenced. Pochettino revealed that discussions about the next four years began over dinner at Jean-Georges in New York on May 24.
