USMNT Captain For 2026 World Cup Officially Revealed - Yahoo Sports

The US Men's National Team has named its captain for the 2026 World Cup, highlighting the player's leadership role as the team prepares for the global stage.

Christian Pulisic, often referred to as "Captain America," will not lead the United States men's national team (USMNT) as captain during the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. Instead, veteran defender Tim Ream has been appointed to wear the captain's armband for the tournament.

Ream's Leadership Role

USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino made the announcement on Saturday, praising Ream's qualities both on and off the field. "I am so grateful that he is with us because [he] was a great captain, not only on the field, even though that’s maybe more important, [but also] off the field," Pochettino stated during a joint press conference with Ream. He emphasized Ream's experience and capacity to be the positive leader the team needs.

Ream expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying, "This is more than a dream come true. I’ve done everything possible to be a part of this group, to help this group along, and I’m just really, really grateful to be sitting here." He added that this honor would not change his approach to supporting the team.

Injury Update on Chris Richards

Following Ream's remarks, Pochettino provided an update on defender Chris Richards, who recently suffered a torn ankle ligament. Pochettino confirmed that Richards will miss the upcoming friendly against Senegal in Charlotte, North Carolina, as he continues his rehabilitation. Richards is expected to be re-evaluated next week.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The USMNT is set to play another friendly against Germany at Soldier Field in Chicago on June 6, before kicking off their World Cup campaign against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on June 12.
