WAFCON 2026 — Cameroon defeats Malawi to secure maiden title - Sportstar
Cameroon has secured their maiden WAFCON title by defeating Malawi in the final match. This victory marks a significant achievement for the team in women's football.

Cameroon has secured its first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title with a commanding 3-0 victory over Malawi, marking a significant achievement for the team after three previous final losses. The match took place in Rabat, where Marie Ngah Manga scored two goals and Naomi Eto added another, effectively neutralizing the threat posed by Malawi's Chawinga sisters.
Historic Victory
This triumph is particularly noteworthy as it is Cameroon’s first win in the final after four attempts. The Indomitable Lionesses, who did not qualify for the last tournament, had previously faced Nigeria in their last three finals, all of which ended in defeat. Ngah Manga expressed her joy, stating, “I feel like it’s a dream because you know Cameroon have been working hard to have this moment and today for us to be champion of Africa is a very, very wonderful thing.”
Match Highlights
Malawi started the match strongly but was quickly put on the back foot. Ngah Manga opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a close-range header, shortly followed by Eto, who skillfully turned to find the net. Ngah Manga later sealed the victory with her second goal, heading in a perfect cross from Eto. Despite Malawi's efforts, including a strong performance from the Chawinga sisters, they could not find the back of the net.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Patrice Motsepe were present at the match, with Infantino assisting in the medal presentations. The tournament concluded with Algeria defeating Morocco in the third-place match.
